    Hello Legion Gamers!

Creature Fest is over, and while we're waiting for the next one, Capital Games decided to do their own thing and launched a Games Made In France Steam event!

This one is not an official Steam fest, so it has no video intro or that many sales, it is more of an exposition event to showcase the games made in France. And many of the games mentioned are not even out yet. Thought members of our French Community probably can say more about these games and developers here. @ramax, do you have any insights? 😉

But what I can tell you about is that this past weekend I got and played the Drop Dutchy game, by sheer coincidence, as I did not even know about this event back then ( @ZaidH not as spectacular as coincidences we sometimes get, but still 😅):

This game is another one of the interesting genre combos that the roguelite genre has been paired with recently. It has a deckbuilding element to it, but stands out in a way that it uses the iconic Tetris mechanic in gameplay. I liked it very much and spent half the weekend playing it (the second half was dedicated to watching the second season of Andor 😅). I want to say that if you like rogulite deckbuilders, it is worth a try, and if you like Tetris, then it definitely is. Thank you, France! 😉

Do we have fans of Tertis here, by the way? Personally, I do not really like the bare mechanic in itself, it is fine, but gets old quickly, like those "lines of three" as well. But I like it much more when it is used as a basis for a more complicated mechanic, like in this example.

Thanks for the tag! As soon as I saw the word "French," I rushed to check if Expedition 33 was on sale 😅 Foolish of me to think it would get a discount this quickly, but here’s hoping it makes it onto this very list next year.

@ZaidH I would think there will be a discount for it during the Winter Sale at the latest. And in the meantime, as we wait, you get to check out what other good games came out (or, indeed, will soon come out) of France 😉

I used to play Tetris only as a kid sometimes, but it gets too stressful for me when it starts going faster and faster, I'm more of a "peggle" kind of person. I can handle many things at the same time, as long as it's not going too fast.

I bet these publishers and developers are pretty happy that Expedition 33 is bringing all the French vibes to gaming right now

Hello, I never heard of french games till now, as matter a fact I didn't care about who was releasing the game. I have to give you that: Expedition 33 to me seems awesome. Do you know another great french games that has to be mentioned?

@Telomina Ah, in Drop Duchy, they do not drop faster and faster, always the same speed, and it is generally rather relaxed as far as the speed is concerned. The catch is that there are a lot of synergies between different pieces, so you can't just drop them down so that there are no gaps, as you would in actual Tetris, you need to consider how they will work together. Maybe that would not be as tough to handle 😊

The thing is, unless you really like Tetris, the gameplay gets old after a while. I played it throughout last week, but now I think I am ready to move on. And the game is not as cheap as Tetris, either...

Expedition 33 is a great success indeed. France was a bit under-represented in the gaming world, curiously so, even. Apart from Sabatur and AC Unity, I'd need to think about what games are set there...

@RatlleRo Expedition 33 is awesome, but also distinctly French, they put a lot of effort into making it feel and sound in that vibe:

By "great French games", do you mean in a similar genre to Expedition 33, or just set in France?
