Hi, i have been facing an issue with an Ideapad 3, 5800H , 3060.

It works perfectly when plugged in charger. But on battery is very slow. From HWinfo i found that once i am on battery the Thermal throttling HTC and PROCHOT EXT is Triggered. And this causes the laptop to think its hot and limits the laptop speed. But in real the laptop is not at all hot.

I have replaced RAM, SSD and the battery so far. But no luck

It is an otherwise perfectly running laptop when plugged it.

Kindly advice on troubleshooting

@Farhanito I have a b50--70, the laptop is about the same age as windows 8 but I had the same issue when I upgraded to win 11, however the steps might be different from when I did it back in 2021
On Lenovo laptops there's two things that caused it for me and both were found in bios.
1 - This option that automatically changed which gpu I use when on battery
2- a thing called CPU frequency scaling which limits how much battery power the CPU gets to save energy.

For #1 you can set it to only use the 3050 instead of the integrated graphics (you might have a mux switch which makes this easier to do,)

For #2 you can look at all your CPU settings in bios and you can adjust it as you like from there which should solve the main issue further.

If you haven't, You can also look at your power saving options when on battery, if its on full power saver or performance based
(I'm not liable for anything that happens, this is just advise and done at your own discretion)

@Haffejeeeee your input is appretiated. in the windows power setting it is in balanced. I guess i have to deep dive into the advanced bios for CPU scaling.

I am also trying find an older version of the bios. Thats a suggestion i found on discord. But lenovo website pulled down all old versions. Infact now i trying windows 10, to check if i posses this issue on windows 10

I don't have much experience with laptops
But I do not think that any laptop works at its full potential if you connect it to a charger
It loses a large part of its power if you rely on the battery due to low power consumption

Like other users already posted here, laptops will never go full power when not charging.
Consider that full power GPU+CPU laptops with nowadays standards are most probably draining at least 150W, but if you'd have that your battery would heavily overheat due to the sudden drain and also wouldn't last even an hour.
What you're experiencing is effectively kinda a thermal throttle, but it's a standard way to preserve your battery life and your laptop when not in charge.

Now, if the limits are way harsher than what you'd expect even considering the above, lookup the setting already suggested by @Haffejeeeee. You can also consider to stop the CPU Turbo Boost through Windows settings. Here's a video about where the setting is:

You can try to make the CPU go at 99% to stop Turbo Boost ( often unnecessary in gaming and on battery ), allowing an almost fullpower CPU but without forcing the limits ( activated when the usage goes to 100% ). You can fiddle with it with values like 50%, 70% or 90%.

This is not a problem it's a strategy to limit power drain to give you more battery life cycle giving you more time of usage if they let the cpu and gpu on full power while on battery it won't last for an hour or less
