@DracoTarot Some of them do and are, like Alan Wake, they made a remake of that for people to play before part 2 comes out later this year. But it is more common for the games to get a remaster when the next game in the series is coming out. But they don't usually get any DLCs, at least, nothing like that immediately comes to mind.

It is true that some games suffer from those ailments. Microtransactions make me remember that pun from Mythic Quest:

But all the while there are decent modern games that are not too big in size and do not have those microtransactions and other money-grabbing tricks. It's just a matter of finding them. For example, about internet speeds, what size of the game is manageable?

@DoctorEldritch Games are manageable if you don't have to update a game each and every week. I do understand there will be updates required especially with online games but it really influences gameplay for some gamers.

Take Call of Duty for instance. It seems every time there is an update the whole game is rewritten and all the files are downloaded again. The updates are not replacing certain files in the library and each file is removed and replaced. I wanted to play Call of Duty last week and had an 80-gig update. After 4 days I had to update again and there was a 50 gig update extra. My internet speeds are so pathetic some days due to the power failures it takes 5 or more hours to update the game. Even worse is when the game is finally downloaded the game doesn't want to load after the update and the only solution is to delete and reinstall. Another 160 gigs later the game is then playable. Yet again a few days later another update is needed.

@DracoTarot I did not know the situation with CoD is that bad with updates. I imagine it is not a problem just for you, many people have lower speed so an update like this would take a long time. I know if I wanted to play CoD with a 50 GB update, I would not be able to that day, at least. So you either plan in advance or play something else.

But CoD may be an extreme example. Many good games are not quite as big and still very much enjoyable. Not to say you should avoid CoD, it is the gamer's prerogative to play what we like and want, but it is possible to have a less updated and demanding game as a backup plan.

@DoctorEldritch I'm not singled out and I know many gamers are in the same position as me. Call of Duty is one example of many other games. The new Diablo 4 has at least 2 updates in a week. They are small and manageable.

I quit Call of Duty LOL!! I'm currently playing older games. Started with Mass Effect 2 and showed my support to Indie developers who released new games.

@DracoTarot That's a healthy attitude to have. And hopefully, the situation will change for the better, too. It does, but not as fast as I'd like. I remember @GoLLuM13 and I recently spoke about the evolution of games and how fifteen years ago there was no Steam and you needed to go to the shop and buy a CD to play the game. And now you get automated updates, big as they are. Who knows what's gonna happen in 15 more years...

What indie developers do you support?

@DracoTarot I stopped CoD for the exact same reasons + the bugs, I remember having the same bugs on Cold War and Vanguard, and when doing the research to solve them, I found that they were bugs that were already there since the reboot of Modern Warfare (at least) 😅

@GoLLuM13 CoD has 50 GB updates AND bugs? That's a full package. Well, at least they are consistent in what they deliver, eh? Kind of like Bethesda. I am worried about Starfield...

@DoctorEldritch I really do not mind downloading and updating a game. What bothers me is the whole game being overwritten. I feel there is no need and it's forced upon a player.

In the future games are going to be so huge. I can imagine waiting for a game to download taking a few days and the game being a 2-terabyte download with an extra terabyte of updates.

I support Hades, Heart Machine, Mobius Digital and Super Giant games. They are my favourite Indie developers at the moment.

@GoLLuM13 I gave up in the end with all the bugs and the huge downloads. Most of my friends also followed my lead. We are focusing more on PUBG at the moment.
