@DoctorEldritch I know they were optimized for pc but I had the EMU files LOL! Never had the urge to download the games directly.

I could get it from steam I guess. Will look into it.

@DracoTarot Whatever way you think is best. I just wondered if an emulator demanded so much power that HDD could not handle it. Or was it just coincidental?

@DoctorEldritch The HD could handle the emulator. I used it for a few years and downloaded an update now and again. My pc problems all started when the power issues began. The unexpected blackouts while my pc was on. My HD crashed then a month later my GPU died.

i used MAME to play EMU games. Had over 900 titles.

@DracoTarot I am mostly using laptops, which are less vulnerable to power surges, in case of one they have a battery to fall back on. But most towers don't. I guess after those troubles with blackouts started, people began to buy surge protectors?

Over 900 is impressive. Did you plan to play them all? I do not think I played that many games in my life to date, not even sure I am over 100... 900 is ambitious.

@DoctorEldritch A laptop is great. It would help a lot with the power outages. Maybe one day an awesome Legion laptop will come my way. I do have mini UPS and it keeps the computer running for about 15 min. It's enough time to save and properly shut down the desktop.

We also do have surge protectors and still my equipment got damaged. We call them Red plugs here. The thing is if it's a substation giving problems sometimes the power will switch on and off continuously for a few seconds and I think the Surge protector doesn't stop all the spikes coming through.

I played most of them. Some were very old and small games. Others I skipped like South Park because the Emu didn't work well. There were others with similar problems.

Not all of them worked. Maybe 600 out of the 900 loaded.

@DracoTarot Goes to show how damaging surges can be if even red plugs fall short...

600 is still a lot, even if they were small. If you played most of them, even out of 600, it is still impressive. How long did it take to go through that pile?

@DoctorEldritch The best is to unplug everything before the load shedding and when going to bed.

It took a while to play them all. Some I only played for a few minutes and others I finished. It's hard to say how long it took exactly. I played until the HDD crashed—roughly two years.

@DracoTarot I unplug everything regardless, I read you can save some this way, not much, but every penny counts.

It is enough for you to play a few minutes to know if you like the game?

Two years is still a lot. Were these the only games that you played during that time?

In the meantime, a bit of Warhammer-related news. John Blanche, the legendary artist behind the visual style of Warhammer 40K, left Games Workshop. He started working there back in 1977, for a long tie he was the art director of the company, and it is thanks to him that Warhammer 40K universe has a distinct grotesque style. The images he created are still being used today, and there is even a school of miniature model colouring that grew out of his style, a school named Blanchitsu. Here are some of his works:

@Saka, I know his style is different from yours, but maybe you have some thoughts as a fellow artist?

A loss for Game Workshop for sure, but the artist is 75 years old now. He commented that he wants more time to focus on personal projects. So hopefully he will have other interesting art to share down the line!

@DoctorEldritch We save a little on the bills but doesn't really help if we are hit with an 18% increase in utilities, It either stays the same or more units are used.

I literally played some of the games for a few minutes. The first two levels of a game are always the decider for me. If I didn't like the style of the game or mechanics I'd move on to the other.

I also played other games. The EMU games were only to pass some time if I wasn't in the mood for more advanced titles.

@DoctorEldritch Nice artwork! The artist's work would fit well with some Death Core Metal album covers. Mostly the same artistic style.
