@DoctorEldritch From the top of my head I can only remember a course I participated in 2021, which was dedicated to Blokchain, which focused on the theory of blockchain technology and guided people through the process of creating one's own blockchain. It was not repeated after that.

@Saka I am really sorry for late post, I had no idea about upcoming courses before I saw the post on another Discord channel (FGF) and made sure from the organizer at JAMK University of Applied Sciences that postin brief here was fine. I would have absolutely posted it earlier if I had a chance.
@DoctorEldritch I gotta agree with Saka that it is an issue which is still alive in the gaming world. And not just in multiplayer games, but gaming in general - like Arin wrote, whatever you're playing Sims or Candy Crush, or are into more e-sports type of games such as Overwatch 2, Apex Legends or World of Warcraft, results are usually the same. Girls, female and other gender minority players are looked down - maybe seen somehow more sensitive than male, which couldn't be more further from the truth. I just recently (yesterday) witnessed a situation in which gamer was openly hostile towards another gamer. It went to a personal level, but when he heard that the one he was openly mocking was a female, his tone changed and he started apologising with several emojis. For me, this only shows up that he thinks as a male that female are more sensitive beings.

There are cases in the gaming world in which female afraid of chatting on voice chat when playing online-multiplayer games. They are afraid to identify as female under their nickname due fear of being harassed. Female make great gamers, just like anyone no regards of their background or gender.

@Liue No worries, not blaming you. It's just unfortunate I didn't have the time to consider participation in the courses properly.

The harassment women get online is not just deprecating and insulting them. There are predators out there and guys who confuse games with Tinder or such apps. Unfortunately, more often than not, communities just ignore reports of such things happening and the victims are blamed instead and not believed. It requires critical mass for such cases to see lights, as an example being the disbanding of the original Method guild in World of Warcraft.

I have been the target of unwanted advances and flirting too. With guilds doing nothing about it or turning it into a joke, even though I was feeling extremely uncomfortable.

I must say that I feel much safer when I am (not intentionally) introduced to new people as "raid leader's wife". Even though that also breeds some... remarks sometimes, at least those I can deal with. Due to my hearing I am not on voice chat, so I don't get all the handholding by the RL, yet I am one of the better players in the team.

@Liue I did not mean to suggest that I think that this issue is not alive in the gaming world, as both you and @Saka say, it is. I apologize if it came across this way. I meant to say that I find it easier to understand the scope and facets of an issue when I can see some personal stories connected to it.

For example, @Saka's comment about feeling safer when introduced as "raid leader's wife" was a very interesting insight and made me think about the possible implications of that and this side of the issue in more detail.

On the subject of Blokchain that @Saka mentioned, I am not sure what the decision there was based on, but maybe Blokchain proved too specific for a whole module dedicated to it and instead was moved to the more general scope of Cryptography? That sometimes happens when universities want to see if a specific subject within a general module deserves its own separate subject (from personal experience, for example, this is how Film or Literature Tourism grew from a broader Cultural Tourism). But that's just one possible reason I could think of.

@DoctorEldritch Yes, it's possible the subject has been incorporated in a smaller scope into some other course. I haven't been following the uni that much because of my long sick leave.

About the harassment, maybe we should create a bigger topic about it and discuss it there. I can dig up the big Method scandal. There were other things like that too. This side of harassment might be actually the most dangerous, but all kinds are damaging to be fair.

I suffer anxiety when playing with strangers. It depends on the game... but it is because long time ago some people traumatised me, criticising me for no reason and/or doing so in act of revenge for not accepting their flirting. The trauma hasn't healed yet, I am still working through it, but I haven't been able to go through a real katharsis yet because I had to focus on other things.

Can some women be emotional? Totally. But so are men, it is just not talked about yet.

Anger and jealousy are emotions too. So the men unloading those on women they meet online are totally emotional.
