In honour of the Hobby month here in the community and as @DoctorEldritch kindly pointed out, today (January 18th) is National Gourmet Coffee Day, I wanted to ask you guys how you like to drink and make your coffee as well as share my personal preferences in both of those aspects mentioned.

Personally I prefer light to medium roast coffees, I haven't found a specific region of coffee I can call my favourite yet, but I tend to buy whole coffee beans from either Columbia or Brazil, I also found this helpful graphic that shows the typical different coffee aromas in different regions of the "coffee belt" from perkcoffee

In terms of how I make the coffee, I used to use a basic drip coffee maker machine for every day use if I just wanted something easy and quick, and then a french press if I wanted to do more with my coffee, but after I got a Hario V60 from my girlfriend for Christmas I started using that for everyday use and for the more specialty stuff, just switching out the beans depending on what I feel like, cheaper grocery brand beans for just a quick cup and more specialty beans for when I want to treat myself 😅
The method I use for the V60 is the one that James Hoffmann has a video guide on

Talking about James Hoffmann, I definitely recommend watching more of his videos if you're interested in learning more about coffee in general, he's the main reason I got interested in doing more with the coffee I already was drinking every day. (and the parody channel Hames Joffmann for a laugh)

for the rare occasion I go to a café I generally just order a cappuccino as it is one of the few coffee drinks I can't make myself with the lack of an espressomachine and a milk steamer

So I hope to hear how you make and enjoy your coffee!

    Nice thread! Happy coffee day!

I use a moka pot and french press myself. Used to have an espresso machine, but after it died I couldn't justify getting another one due to cost and the amount of space it took in my very crowded kitchen. I moved out sometime after that and got a bit larger kitchen, but the counter space remains an issue. I haven't really missed the machine much except that the wand was providing easy access to frothed milk.

I had an electric milk frother, where you just pour milk in and press a button to heat it up and get the foam going. Unfortunately the spring mechanism has gotten stuck last month and it didn't get any better in the attempts of cleaning it. I think I need to shop for a new one. I can drink the coffee black like a Finnish winter night, but cappuccino is a bit lighter on my stomach if I didn't have a solid meal before.

@thecorf I'll voice the unpopular opinion here and confess that I do not drink coffee. Never developed a liking for it. I prefer dark chocolate drink instead.

But I compensate by liking games about coffee. It is a more cultural phenomenon than chocolate is, and there are good games that are built around the concept. The Coffee Talk game that you mentioned I have not played yet, but I did enjoy Necrobarista:

@thecorf Very nice and interesting thread!

I really love coffee and would easily have ten cups a day. The sad part is most of the time I only have a cup of instant coffee. When I really have an opportunity to brew a cup or two of good quality coffee it would be over weekends using my Breville Aroma.

My favourite coffee would be Jacobs Kronung and I also fancy a cup of Douwe Egberts. Both are available in instant and beans.

On occasion, I'll visit a coffee shop when I'm out and about. I will then either order an expresso or cappuccino depending on my mood. Here in my region coffee is a bit expensive. There are so many wonderful blends but empties the wallet.

@DoctorEldritch That Necrobarista game looks interesting, would you recommend it?

I prefer medium to dark roast. My usual pick from the supermarket is Segafredo Pausa, but sometimes I get something fancier. I buy both beans and ground coffee, because I am too lazy to always use the grinder. It's a pain, can pretty much fit only one portion's worth in my grinder and then it's a nightmare to clean.

@Saka Necrobarista is interesting but of an acquired taste. If you like story-driven philosophical fables, in this case, about the nature of death, then it can be interesting. Or if you like Japanese-styled visual novels (it is not exactly it, but homages the style somewhat). So depends more on what you like. If you give me some story-driven games you enjoyed before, I could probably advise better.
